About working with a celebrant
What exactly is a funeral celebrant?
A funeral celebrant is someone who creates and conducts personalised funeral ceremonies and celebrations of life. Unlike religious ministers who follow set liturgies, celebrants craft bespoke ceremonies that reflect the individual who has died – whether they were religious, spiritual, atheist, or somewhere in between.
The role involves meeting with families, gathering stories and memories, writing the ceremony, and delivering it on the day. We're there to support you through the process and to give your loved one a send-off that truly honours their life.

Can we have both a celebrant and a religious element?

Planning and process
How far in advance do we need to book?
Funerals often happen quite quickly – typically within 1-2 weeks of someone dying. I do my best to accommodate families even at short notice. As soon as you know you'd like to work with me, get in touch and we'll make it happen.
For celebrations of life being held separately from the funeral, you'll have more flexibility with timing and can plan further ahead.
What if we don't know what we want yet?
How long will the ceremony be?
Can family members participate in the ceremony?
What if someone gets too emotional to complete their reading?
What happens if we're not happy with the ceremony draft?
Locations and venues
Where can the ceremony be held?
Funeral ceremonies can be held at:
Crematoriums throughout Oxfordshire and Berkshire
Natural burial grounds and woodland burial sites
Gravesides
Any location that feels meaningful for celebrations of life
Each venue has its own requirements and character, and I'm familiar with most venues in the area.
Do you work at all crematoriums in Oxfordshire and Berkshire?
Can we hold a celebration of life somewhere unusual?
Costs and practical matters
How much does it cost to hire a celebrant?
Fees vary depending on the service you need and the celebrant you choose. During our initial conversation, I'll provide clear information about costs based on what you're looking for. There are no hidden fees.
What if we've already arranged everything with the funeral director?
Do we need to use the funeral director's recommended celebrant?
Can we include music?
What about readings or poems?
Can we include humour?
What if the crematorium is small and we have lots of people attending?
What should we expect on the day?
